Integrated Pest Management

Innovations for Monitoring and Treatment

Pests of various forms inflict tremendous damage on farm crops, and farmers often resort to excessive use of poorly targeted, toxic pesticides to protect their livelihoods. This is especially true in developing countries, where pests are not monitored effectively, and farmers have little access to reliable guidance on what, when and how much to apply to their fields. Systems of integrated pest management offer the potential to improve crop protection while reducing the use of harmful agrochemicals, but are yet to be applied at large scales, especially in developing countries.

We work with our partners in Kenya to adapt and apply elements of pest monitoring and management approaches that were proven in Israel and devise ways to make them useful for smallholder farmers.
