Salinity is a major soil degradation and food security problem, threatening almost 20% of global irrigated agricultural soils.
We tested a product developed by the company SaliCrop , which provides a unique chemical treatment for seeds to make them resistant to abiotic stress caused by salinity in several paddy rice farms belonging to small-scale producers in Andhra Pradesh, India.
Results from an analysis of control and treatment plots indicate the technology increased yields in the most salinity stressed plots by substantial amounts, warranting additional evaluation at larger scale.
