Demand for WasteWater Irrigated Food
Are consumers willing to buy food irrigated with wastewater?

Location:
Punjab, India
Type:
Project Details
Treatment wastewater for irrigation in rural areas of low and middle income countries can address both public health challenges and water scarcity. One of the potential challenges facing irrigation with wastewater is negative public perception of the cleanliness and safety of irrigated crops. Very little is known about these perceptions in low and middle income countries.
We conduct a field experiment in vegetable markets in Punjab, India, to elicit consumers' acceptance of and demand for produce irrigated with wastewater.
