Does Asia's Biggest Drip Irrigation Project Work?

A long-term impact evaluation of the Ramthal irrigation project, which provides thousands of farmers with drip irrigation.

Karnataka, India

Project Details

The Ramthal irrigation project represents an ambitious rethinking of surface irrigation projects. Hailed as the largest drip irrigation project in Asia, it provides thousands of small-scale farmers in Karnataka, India, with irrigation water using a network of sub-surface piping and drip irrigation.
The project's goal is to transform the local agricultural landscape, from subsistence, rainfed, cereal based cultivation to high value, commercial horticultural cultivation. This study conducts a long-term evaluation of the project's impact on local farmers.
