Ed-tech Apps in the Favelas

Bridging inequality through gamified math learning in Brazilian favelas

Location:

Sao Paulo, Brazil

Type:

Project Details

In partnership with the nonprofit Gerando Falcões, this project brought digital, game-based math tools into an after-school program in São Paulo’s favelas. More than 220 children, ages 6–11, tested two platforms—Math Center and Matific—to see how play could support learning in communities facing poverty and limited resources. The results showed that digital games not only kept kids engaged but, when aligned with Brazil’s school curriculum, also helped strengthen their math skills. This project highlights how innovative, playful approaches can open new opportunities for children in vulnerable settings.
