Integrated Diagnosis of Water Safety

An integrated social-hydrological survey tool for understanding drinking water issues in a village

Location:

Kerala, India

Type:

Project Details

We present a hybrid methodology for the assessment of water quality and water use and treatment behavior in low-income settings. An easy-to-use survey, operated using a smartphone application, is combined with standardized tests for assessing water quality, producing a research methodology capable of characterizing the multifaceted nature of drinking water use and quality in a sample community.
This multifaceted approach allows researchers to generate meaningful insights, which can in turn inform effective sustainable development projects.
To validate the efficacy of this approach, a sample community in Kerala, South India was assessed, and the results analyzed.
